Intelligent Design for Intelligent Interaction. The New Hoover.org is Live

Clear Digital is excited to announce the launch of the significantly updated Hoover Institution website (Hoover.org) on June 12, 2014. A new visual design enhances the visitor experience, and the architecture renovation makes the site easy to manage for Hoover. Clear Digital worked closely with the organization to define a new structure that simplifies site navigation and improves access to the wide range of information available. “The Hoover site has literally tens of thousands of pieces of content. Our job was to organize it so that all of that content can be found in a logical, intuitive way, from any device,” explains Danny Halvorson, Interactive Director at Clear Digital.

Clear Digital simplified the navigation by restructuring and streamlining research topics. Each major policy research area now has its own landing page, including a slide show featuring key articles. The research items can be filtered to show individual fellows, sub-topics, or particular types of media. Additionally, a more robust search engine was implemented to enhance keyword and content-specific searches.

The objective for the website makeover was to better reflect the Hoover fellows’ contemporary policy work and mirror the sophistication of the institution’s content. An interactive timeline that includes videos, images, and archived documents makes the About Hoover page more engaging. “The timeline is a neat feature,” says Halvorson. “Users can scroll down the page or use the slider at the top to jump to specific eras.” Responsive design allows visitors to seamlessly connect with Hoover.org from any smartphone, tablet, or computer, without sacrificing the integrity of the site. The integration of interactive social media tools encourages visitors to take part in the conversation by sharing articles, videos, and more.

“Information on the hoover.org site is constantly changing, and there’s a lot of it. So it was really important that they had a way to easily manage the content and make updates. Clear Digital built a content management system that is as intuitive as the site itself,” says Steve Ohanians, Creative Director at Clear Digital. The site is built on a Drupal content management system that makes it easy to update navigation, content, images, and libraries, without having to worry about coding or programming.

These improvements in organization and site usability make Hoover.org a strong communications distribution tool for the institution’s growing library of content. With these updates, the site has become a powerful information and interaction platform that has the potential to expand policy debate.
